Why Create an eBook

In 2010, 7% of British adults got a dedicated eReader for Christmas, and it looks like it will be an even bigger figure this year. Just looking at Amazon’s Kindle, 3.6 million e-readers were sold in 2009, around 6.6 million devices in 2010, and this looks likely to jump 68% to 11 million devices in 2011. Add in the number of people reading eBooks on iPads or even on their pc, and you’ll see how eBooks can give you a massive reach. EBook sales are growing exponentially as this chart of US trade sales from the International Digital Publishing Forum shows:

So, lots of people are reading eBooks: this makes them an ideal way to start showcasing your expertise. Whether you are a blogger looking to bring together some of your posts to make an eBook on your favourite topic, or a business owner looking to showcase your expertise, eBooks are reaching more and more people. Make sure that you have an eBook to offer: don’t miss out.

A personal message from Antonia

Would you like your business to generate more money? Of course you would!

You work hard and it would be great to see better returns on the time you’re investing in your business right now.

But it can seem easier to think you’d like more income from your business than to actually achieve it.

If you are in the same situation that I was a few years back, you might be offering a great service, and working hard, but finding that the amount you earn never increased. I ran a PR business which was successful, but there was one fundamental flaw in what I was doing that meant I would never earn more. I’d hit the ceiling.

It took me a while, and input from a number of different people to work out what the flaw in my business was – but since then I haven’t looked back. I now have 13 books in print, and another couple coming out in the next year. I have helped hundreds if not thousands of women, mums and business owners to improve their own businesses. And I have a reliable and growing income coming from my business: I’ve broken through the ceiling on my earnings even though I’m still working part time hours.

A Personal Message from Erica

Do you want to start an online business that brings in a regular reliable income? Starting a website based business is a lot more than ‘build it and they will come’.

You invest time in blogging, get to grips with Twitter and then wonder why you’re not actually making sales.

If you are in the same situation that I was a few years back, you might be blogging and looking at other people who are earning a living from their website, and wondering how to do it. I was a stay at home mum, I was one of the first parent bloggers in the UK. I’d even written an eBook, but still wasn’t bringing in the money. I had to leave my part time job due to health problems and we had a gap in the budget to cover.

With time on my hands, I got focussed on my website. I rose up the ranks of bloggers and appeared in top 10 industry rankings. I attracted more and more advertising and reviews to my site, and on the back of this created an eCourse which really took off. I have helped hundreds if not thousands of women, mums and business owners to improve their own businesses. And I have a reliable and growing income coming from my business: there’s no longer a shortfall in our family budget – I’m out-earning my husband and still have time to study for a full time degree in marketing and entrepreneurship.

How To Create a Press Pack

Right you have managed to create a great press release and want to include other items to reinforce how great your product/service is. Well a press pack can do this.

Press packs are a great way for promoting your business and here are some tips on how to create them.

Press packs contain your press release along with additional information and samples. Sending the pack through the post can be costly but you can be creative by doing it this way.

How can you make your pack stand out? If it is too costly to send a sample of your product out with every pack then why not add a ‘pillow gift’. This can range from a chocolate bar to a bottle of champagne! Or what about a sample of the material your product is made from? If samples or gifts are outside your budget, journalist’s are still looking for new and exciting products to feature without these extras.

Alternatively, why not select a few choice publications where you would really like to be featured. Call  them and speak to the most appropriate journalist and explain what you have to offer and find out if they’d be interested in receiving just the press release or need a sample too. Through doing this, you are making sure your samples are going to the people who are most likely to be really interested in them.

Here is a check list of items you may want to include in the pack.

  • A page about your business or mini-biography
  • Business cards
  • Catalogue
  • CD of images
  • Dates of forthcoming events, you are exhibiting or selling at
  • Page of your tips or short article

Remember to include your logo and contact details on ever sheet and any written inclusions succinct and to a single side.
